Veteran NHL Scout Joins P285 Staff

Prospect 285 is pleased to announce the addition of Brad Davis as the newest member of the P285 team.

Brad Davis Prospect 285 Athlete Advisor

An 18-year career as a scout for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL), it’s in Brad Davis’ blood to evaluate and assess hockey talent. The son of NHLer Lorne Davis — Stanley Cup champion, Olympic and WHL coach, and an architect of the 1980s Edmonton Oiler dynasty — Brad always knew he would, in some way, follow in his father’s footsteps.

A prairie boy, born and raised in Saskatchewan, Brad’s was a unique childhood. Standing at his father’s side in a frozen arena or sitting comfortably in the family living room, Brad knew it was a privilege listening to the stories of Glenn Hall and George Armstrong, learning from the experiences of Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky.

With injuries cutting short his playing days, Brad quickly realized that his path to professional hockey would follow a different route and in 1988 he began a 12 year career as an on-ice official: reffing in the WHL, AHL, IHL and ECHL. Brad left the ice, but not the game, in 1997 when he was hired as a scout by Edmonton Oilers’ president and general manager Glen Sather. Brad held his position with the Oilers for 18 years, working under Sather and future GMs Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish.

Throughout his career Brad travelled extensively — Canada, the United States, Russia and Europe — evaluating and reporting on talent for the Oilers. Connected to big name picks like Taylor Hall and Leon Draisaitl, Brad is most proud of his efforts as a lead voice in the selection of Shawn Horcoff, Andrew Cogliano, Jeff Petry and Tobias Rieder.

“I’m tremendously excited to share my knowledge of the game and passion for player development as an advisor and mentor for Prospect 285,” said Davis, “helping young athletes reach their potential, guiding their families through the process, and helping to open doors to junior hockey, the CHL, NCAA and pro hockey, I’m looking forward to helping these young players pursue their dreams.”

Brad's years of experience at the sport’s highest level and his personal experiences on and off the ice will help to make him an outstanding mentor, advisor, and an invaluable member of the Prospect 285 team.
